Vision and Mission

Science Curriculum Framework

The first image (S1) shows the Singapore Science curriculum framework, centred on "Science for Life and Society." It depicts three interconnected spirals representing Innovate, Inspire, and Inquire, surrounded by Core Ideas, Practices, and Values, Ethics and Attitudes. The framework is held by two hands labelled "Students as Inquirers" and "Teachers and Partners as Facilitators.
The second image (S2) elaborates on the "Practices of Science" through a triangular framework with three dimensions: Demonstrating Ways of Thinking and Doing in Science (WOTD), Understanding the Nature of Scientific Knowledge (NOS), and Relating Science-Technology-Society-Environment (STSE). It breaks down scientific practices into investigating, evaluating and reasoning, and developing and evaluating solutions.

Practices of Science

Teaching And Learning Through Inquiry

Hands-On Learning

This image shows a young girl, likely a primary school student in Singapore based on her yellow school uniform, working on what appears to be the construction of a solar oven using a cardboard box. She is wearing safety goggles, which is good practice for a hands-on science activity. She seems focused and engaged as she works on her project. This connects nicely with the earlier images — it looks like a behind-the-scenes look at the process of building those solar ovens we saw displayed on the table in S5, showing the students actively constructing their designs in the classroom.

Students learnt about fungi at a Mushroom Growing Workshop.

The third image (S5) shows student-made solar ovens constructed from cardboard boxes, aluminium foil, and other materials, displayed on a table outdoors. A handwritten sign reads "1 Day. Do not touch. Solar Oven" with a heart. This looks like a hands-on design challenge activity.

Students designed solar ovens using concepts learnt.

Two educational display boards: one about environmental topics with illustrated icons and text (left), and one titled "HGS Recycles!" describing a school recycling programme with instructions and a recycling box (right).

Students built water cycle models and wrote creative Droplet stories.

An overhead view of four primary school girls in yellow uniforms sitting on the floor, measuring and recording observations about a ramp with different surface textures, using a tape measure and worksheets.

Students explored energy conversion through hands-on activities.

Harnessing Technology for Teaching and Learning

A screenshot of a collaborative digital board (appears to be Padlet) titled "5G Design an electric circuit," showing a task prompt and circuit design submissions from three student groups using the PhET circuit construction simulation.

Students built electric circuits using online simulations, and learnt collaboratively on Padlet.

A screenshot of the PhET "Energy Skate Park" simulation showing a skater on a curved ramp, with energy controls and a bar graph displaying kinetic, potential, thermal, and total energy values.

Holistic Assessment to Support Learning

Science D3T2 (Discover, Develop & Dedicate your Talent Time)

Three photos of primary school students in yellow uniforms conducting science experiments: holding up a water-filled plastic bag outdoors, measuring with a vertical tube, and working at desks with materials.

Science D3T2 students engaged in collaborative, creative Inquiry through hands-on exploration and critical thinking.

Learning Science beyond the classroom

World of Wonders (W.O.W) @ Recess

Three photos of young primary school girls in yellow uniforms engaged in hands-on craft or science activities at tables, working with colourful materials, small containers, and trays of water.

Students explored scientific concepts through interactive and engaging activities during recess.

Learning Journeys

Three photos of a large group of young students in yellow uniforms on a school excursion to a natural history museum, posing in front of large dinosaur skeletons.

Students learnt together at the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum.

Green Spaces and Practices
